Q. I heard that applying a dab of toothpaste to a spot overnight can help get rid of it. Is this a myth, Lesley?
A. Toothpaste can helpspots to disappear. That’s because they contain anti-bacterial properties. However, if you overuse toothpaste it can cause very dry skin and make the problem worse as your body will produce more oil to contract the dryness. So, best treat your skin on a regular basis to counteract spots if they are a regular occurrence. Try using an AHA product like VI Derm's Complete Care for acne.
Q. My eyelids are dark, so I always look sleepy. Help!
A. Often dark eyelids are genetic and there's little you can do about it other than use a camouflage cream. Reason for discolouration of the eyelids can include sun exposure, hormones from pregnancy or the contraceptive pill. The skin of the eyelids is the thinnest skin on the body, so always protect it, wear sunglasses and a layer of mineral makeup to protect you.
Q. I know this sounds a bit silly Lesley but my friend and I disagree on this. If I wash my hands after I apply sunscreen, will they burn? I say they will.
A. Wash your palms but leave the sunscreen on the backs of your hands as sun damage is the biggest culprit of skin ageing and sun spots. Yes, you win!
